Legends ofAmarna

The hourglass drips on and on, and over time history fades.

What is truth to a king? A tyrant? A god?

And you? What do you value most?

Once upon a time, the land of Aspasia prospered under the peaceful rule of a grand council. Now it's kingdoms lay shattered, its people divided, and its most ancient civilization forgotten. After a thousand years of struggle and the recent opening of ancient portals, long considered obsolete, the world is changing, and its inhabitants struggling. Each choice, each decision, now more important than ever. And you? Which side will you choose?

Cinders wasn't a social creature, not by any means, so for her to not only spend an extended amount of time around people but to go one step further and argue with them was a statement to just how important her current pursuit was. To many the jousting contest was just a fun distraction, a chance to have fun in an athletic sort of way, but to Cinders it was so much more. A chance to learn how to wield a weapon, to practice wielding it against an opposing party, a lesson in how to fight back. It was the first real chance she had to learn, in her human form no less, how to no longer be so defenseless!

But, of course, that was just too easy wasn't it? Because jousting was an adult sport and she was a child, and no matter how she tried to insist she was just short they wouldn't budge, which had led to the current scene of her arguing with the guards trying to convince them she was just a halfling and they were being racist to not allow her in. A bit childish perhaps, but as she was being repeatedly reminded, she was just a child. But it wasn;t fair, because she was likely being hunted down when she had never done anything to anyone, and if she couldn't learn to fight she would die just like her parents! She didn't have the luxury of being a child, she'd had to become an adult in all but age, unfortunately even now no one would take her seriously.

Finally, having enough of an argument she just couldn't win, she stormed off and....kicked rocks. It wasn't a very good use of her time, but it made her feel better, and it had been so very long a time until she'd just....done something because she wanted to. She could scarcely remember the innocent days of exploring her shifter powers for fun in the forest behind her parents cabin, everything now was done with strict purpose and regulation, moments to just do something because she wanted were an extravagance she couldn;t afford until she was safe once more. Which, considering she had no family nor was so heartless to risk exposing some other city to her enemies, she could never be without getting so powerful her enemies would run at the mere sight of her.

Fighting with her armor, the red haired woman struggled to get the heavy metal and straps connected properly. Yes, she was a warrior, but her main advantage was speed and precision, so heavy armor was an encumbrance. True, it could protect you, but it also slowed you down. She preferred leather at the heaviest, though most the time she was just as happy fighting in normal every day clothes. Perhaps her immortality had something to do with it, but she wasn't big on anything protective. Why not fight if you could fight freely and in style?

Either way, she was going to joust this week. It was a rare occurrence, in fact, her primary form was that of an equine herself, so it would be quite different to be on the back of a horse. It was not her first time jousting, but it was still much different than what she was used to. She fought in armies, but again, her primary form was that of an equine. She had no need to push men off of their horse's backs, she was the horse in battle hoof versus hoof against other horses. Finally, strapping the last bit of armor on with a grunt, the woman stood up and tightened her hair ties, her long mane of brilliant red hair secured firmly against her skull and her helmet tucked under an arm. It was warm enough out, and the heat was already building up against her. She would not use the helmet until it was time.

Making her way into the tent, she talked to the event officials and put her name down on the roster. She wasn't the first one who had signed up, and it seemed her name was far enough down the list that she wouldn't be competing until some time tomorrow or the day after. That was no problem with her, as it would give her some time to practice and freshen up on her jousting skills. It really had been a long time... at least by human standards... probably one or two hundred years, and even if she didn't care if she won the joust, it would be fun to give it her best shot.

Leaving the tent, she made her way along the sunny hills when a familiar for caught her eyes. Cinders?! She remembered meeting the poor, scared, orphaned child in the Temple of Lazin and Freya a while back, and it seemed that she had some sort of a plan in place, and she vaguely remembered Nelayryn taking her in, but what was she doing here? This time she didn't seem scared, however, she seemed upset, and was kicking rocks with a rather sour look about her.

"Cinders? Is that you?" She was pretty sure it was the girl, but she wanted to be sure before she looked a fool and approached the wrong person thinking she was someone else.
